Body Contouring

What is Body Contouring?

Body contouring is a noninvasive, nonsurgical cosmetic procedure used to remove fat. Because body contouring does not require surgery, it’s considered to be a safer option than liposuction.

There are many different options of body contouring that can be used, including:

  • Cryolipolysis: freezes fat cells and kills them off
  • Injection lipolysis: kills fat cells under the chin to eliminate double chin
  • Radio frequency lipolysis: uses ultrasound technology to contour the body
  • Laser lipolysis: uses heat from laser energy to destroy fat cells

What Can Body Contouring Be Used For?

Body contouring procedures are not meant to help patients lose weight. Rather, they are most effective for people who are either at their desired weight or are close to it, and are struggling to eliminate pockets of fat resistant to an improved diet and exercise.

Body contouring can be used to eliminate fat from the following locations:

  • abdomen
  • arms
  • back fat
  • beneath the buttocks
  • double chin
  • love handles (extra pockets of fat on or near the hips)
  • thighs

Is Body Contouring Effective?

Body contouring is effective for people who are close to or are at their desired weight and cannot seem to get rid of some excess fat, no matter how much they exercise or diet. Body contouring may not have the most immediate results when compared to cosmetic surgeries. To achieve the desired results, body contouring may take multiple treatment sessions.

Is Body Contouring Safe?

Yes, body contouring is a safe procedure and a good alternative to surgeries like tummy tucks, breast lifts, or butt lifts. While these surgeries are usually safe, too, there are significantly more dangerous risks when compared to body contouring procedures, such as:

  • Bleeding or blood clots
  • Complications from anesthesia
  • Nerve damage or injury
  • Heart or lung problems
  • Infection
  • Poor results that require another round (or more) of surgery
  • Scarring
  • Skin discoloration and/or irregularities

With body contouring, a nonsurgical procedure, the above risks are eliminated. At most, you may experience pain, reddened skin, or swelling. If you aren’t happy with your results, that can easily be taken care of in a follow-up appointment.

Unlike surgery, there is no recovery time required with body contouring, so once you’ve had a treatment session, you can go back home or back to work as if nothing happened.
